SO, WHAT'S THIS SITE ALL ABOUT???
PLEASE READ ON. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO SAVE TRUE ART!
Tromatonic is proud to have Lloyd Kaufman's approval!

What I try to establish with this website is something of an awareness that it is very important that we, the fans, keep supporting independent cinema, and when talking about independent cinema there is one filmstudio that immediately springs to mind. Not only is it the oldest still existing independent filmstudio in the world, but they also release the finest films of all, have an enormous vault of gems still to be discovered by the audience, but they also still MAKE the finest films around and they still have a very fine eye for new talent, making it possible for the intelligent filmfan to discover the works of such people as Warren Disbrow Jr. and Guisseppe Andrews, brilliant auteurs whose films we would otherwise never have been introduced to.
A studio that has to struggle against the well know evil worshipping conglomerates (to phrase the president of Troma and creator of the Toxic Avenger Lloyd Kaufman) needs to have a lot of money, sometimes even to fight lawsuits against such conglomerates for doing something that was not even against the law in the first place, but which they couldn't prove without spending tons of dollars with the endresult being that the BIG ONES still get their way. Such was the case, for example, with the original poster for Charles Kaufman's "WHEN NATURE CALLS", which was a parody on the poster for GONE WITH THE WIND. Making a parody is not against the law, it is completely ligitimate. But when the studio that owns such a title sues Troma for plagiarism, the only way Troma can make their point is by hiring lawyers that cost more than the average Troma production in itself (per hour probably), which simply can't be done. So, the poster had to be changed .
In this video Lloyd Kaufman talks about his work as chairman of the IFTA (Independent Film & Televison Alliance), battling the big conglomerates, which unfortunately is all to necessary.
With all kinds of such traps constantly laid down everywhere by the large studio's that also own most of the theaters it is very hard to keep some cash left to invest in a new pick-up film, or production. Even though the best and most expensive Troma productions probably cost less than the average breakfast of the Big Star in the latest Hollywood Blockbuster, some of it is badly needed in order to make Troma continue to treat us to magnificent movies of the future.
By selling their movies, occasionally to theaters and fortunately through the internet on DVD, sometimes enough of it can be realised, but it is very important that more people KNOW about Troma, that everybody LEARNS about their incredibly rich library of important films and that everybody who knows about it spreads the word. The bad thing is that REVIEWERS who work for magazines that are spread widely don't seem to be interested in anything independent. Yes, secretly they are (I know a few personally), but when they would reveil that to their editor they wouldn't have a job for long anymore. Many of these magazines are owned by the same lame big and evil companies, or at least some of their no less evil friends and associates. So if any reviewer wants to keep his family alive by bringing in his salary every month he has to say "yes massa, toby be good nigger massa", and write exactly about those films they have some kind of interest in, and of course what he has to write about it is already known before he has even seen the film. It's hopeless.
With this site I try to promote and support independent cinema. You can help, and it is easy. By writing a little bit ("two lines is enough") you can help making the world a slightly less disastrous place, and help yourself in staying able to buy truly interesting films on DVD.
Check MY CALL TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT CINEMA for details and such on how to join in. And then join in. It's easy and it is fun.
Check MY REVIEWS for the reviews I submitted so far along with some more here and there on certain releases.
Check also for information and infiltration on DUTCH RELEASES and more info on Dutch Troma-happenings
I also included a section where I share my other thoughts on related subjects. To make them sound interesting I call these ESSAYS.
And there's a tromatonic SHOP , approved by Lloyd Kaufman, where you can buy exclusive tromatonic T-shirts, tromette tops or hats. All our proceeds from sales is donated to the next TROMADANCE festival!
Along with continually and/or occasionally added extra information on titles, a few more sections will be added as we go along. I am currently working on a few articles concerning things that have happened in this funny part of the world in recent years. Check back occasionally!
