TROMA IN THE NETHERLANDS It is not enough, but in this funny country some Troma happenings are going on. It has GOT to be more, though. Fortunately there is a knowledge of Troma, some awareness that maybe we can expand.
Lloyd Kaufman has been a special guest on the festival for a number of times. In 2001 He received a lifetime achievement award. He was only the fourth person to receive this award, after Wes Craven, Dario Argento and Paul Verhoeven. I will inlcude a short piece and pictures of the award ceremony here soon. Keep checking. Lloyd's visit of that year was also important, as it marked the European premiere of CITIZEN TOXIE: THE TOXIC AVENGER PART IV. Just like TERROR FIRMER the year before this new masterpiece had it's premiere in But, fortunately another showing was being held a few days later, for those who want to see the film without the loud audience that always seems to have to go to the Night of Terror. They are all there in good fun, but I get annoyed after only so many "HOERRRR" or "HOMOOOO" jokes in the middle of all the films. Lloyd adviced the audience before the film started that there would be enough Hoer's and Homo's in the film to keep them satisfied, and indeed it was a huge success!
A year after that the world renowned Master Class MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE was an important part of the festivalīs program. In 2007 another Troma-showstopper during the Night of Terror, when POULTRYGEIST was shown. Again, this film also had a showing for those who actually wanted to make something of the dialog a few days later. It was a pity that the filmīs director could not be at the festival. It didn't have its European premiere in Amsterdam, that honor went to Brussels, where the film received a standing ovation!

Interestingly enough some of Tromaīs best known titles have been given a release in the Netherlands, and more seem to be on their way. The studios responsible for these releases definitely deserves kudos for this!
The treatment they're given is very good and respectful, and as some are different from the USA releases, they might be of interest to the serious collector of Troma.
Donut Media is hard underway to be the biggest TROMA- releasing distributor in the Netherlands, and probably in Europe!
Tromatonic believes this is such an important event, that this particular distributor needs support. With more and more places in this world where people have access to the Troma catalog, the more chance there is that more people will actually get to KNOW about their existence. On april 11, 2008 there was an unrivalled screening of no less than THREE of Troma's best Tromasterpieces in Popcentrum 013 in Tilburg, during the THEATRE MACABRE: THE TROMA EDITION. Troma's lost masterpiece TROMA'S WAR was on the big screen for as far as I know the first time ever in this country, and also CITIZEN TOXIE: THE TOXIC AVENGER PART IV plus the latest and possibly greatest of Lloyd's films POULTRYGEIST: NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD could bee seen. In addition to all that the Dutch horror film HOROZONICA in which Lloyd has a cameo appearance was shown to the public! For those who know what Troma stands for it will be clear this was a night not to be missed, and for those who haven't had the pleasure yet it was a great way to be introduced to this important independent filmstudio. Especially now that several of their DVD's have started to infiltrate the Dutch Market. Photo's of this event will be shown here very soon!
