         INFILTRATING REVIEWS

Here I list all the reviews on Troma-dvd's and books that I have postedon the various websites in order to let the readers of those sites know there is alot of interesting stuff around there. For your convinience I devided the enormous catalog of Troma's films in a few different sections.

LLOYD KAUFMAN DIRECTS

The  films that are without any doubt the heart of the studio's output. Even though some were made before the Troma name was even invented they became the groundworks of a studio that changed history forever. Others were made very recently, or are even in production as we speak. The early sexy comedies that were ripped off so much in later days, the brilliant Toxic Avenger series, a very ingenius interpretation of a work by an ancient bard. This is the work of a great filmmaker.

THE TROMATEAM     lists the important films, produced by Lloyd Kaufman & Michael Herz (i.e. The Troma Team) but directed by other directors. They have some common demominators ( a lot seems to happen in a town named Tromaville), and all of them have the distinct Troma flavour.

NOTABLE DIRECTORS     Sometimes Troma releases a film by a filmmaker who after this first chance gets better paid opportunities and sees to it that his next work will be released by another studio, but there are some directors who seem to build a steady growing body of work under Troma’s flag. Some very talented auteurs have seemed to decide that This is the studio that should release and promote their work. WARREN F. DISBROW JR.’s fourth Troma-released film is on its way, and GIUSEPPE ANDREWS really makes things interesting by having films released almost every few months. AIDEN DILLARD is another very talented and completely ubique director who's second feature film is to be his second Troma-release this summer! Important people who deserve a niche of their own within the Troma canon.

MORE TROMA GENIUS      And then there are the (in)famous Troma pick-ups. Films nobody else dares to touch. A careless viewer might sometimes think that that would be rightfully the case, and sometimes there even may be the odd very bad film here, but which filmstudio does NOT ever release a bad film? Heck, most build their entire fortune on terrible shit without ever blinking an eye as long as the shit brings in the cash. With a Troma pick-up you know it is at least a film that is made FOR THE RIGHT REASONS, and therefore (in my never so humble opinion) interesting at least. And even more important: in many cases there are gems here of which it is too rediculous that no one else has picked them up and if anyone would take the time to watch these movies the funny fantasy that Troma only releases “trash” would be sent to oblivion for good (as is so often heard, most of the time from people who don’t have a clue what they are talking about).

BOX-SETS AND BOXETTES      Again for your convinience I listed the DVD-releases of collections of films seperately. This is also a result of the fact that my reviews are written with the promotional goal in mind, and the online shops have them listed as such. Again (again) there are two different sections: the collections released by Troma, and a wonderful series of 21 films (in 7 box-sets) of films that Navarre licenced from Troma.

TROMADANCE     The world’s only truly independent film festival, results in some wonderful releases that also deserve a category of their own.

BOOKS Which of course aren’t so much films as all the other categories mentioned here above. But then again: what the heck. And also: Lloyd Kaufman has written some wonderful books, written in such a way that the FILM OF THE IMAGINATION can be used to fully visualise everything. Apart from that, two are about filmmaking, and one has the same title as one of the films. How many executives of filmstudios can come up with such an impressive output?

DUTCH RELEASES  are still rather few, but they are good.

RELATED STUFF combines non-Troma releases that in some way or another have a link. Either an interesting project by an ex Troma genius, or a film that was highly inspired by (or more likely has its ideas stolen from) Tromafilms but somehow got to be a lot more popular than the original. These can make for great opportunities to infiltrate and make those interested in these titles on DVD aware of the fact that they definitely should see the original which they probably never even heard of.
